Our club celebrated the 2014 Time to Walk event with a big group of walkers in downtown Las Vegas. We were on the trail at 10:11am on December 13, 2014 (12/13/14) and had walkers from Oregon as well as from as far away as Germany!

A New UNLV Walk
Our group enjoyed sunny, 65 degree weather today (gotta love Las Vegas in the winter!) as we went to check out the newly revised UNLV walk. This walk took us by the new Jerry Tarkanian memorial wall at UNLV as well as a new route around the campus.

Tater Tours Travels
Tater Tours Travels to Canada and then to Columbia River Gorge and NW Conference
My travels started with a short trip to Iowa for my nephew's graduation and then I flew to Spokane, Washington for the start of the Canadian Walking Convention to be held in the beautiful town of Banff, Alberta located in the Canadian Rockies. Before we drove into Canada though, we walked in Spokane and in Coeur d' Alene (2 great walks!) It was great to see a lot of volksmarching friends from the USA and Canada. The sightseeing was magnificent! Pictures below are evidence of that! We continued our journey to Canmore and Calgary Alberta and then to Saskatchewan and Manitoba. We entered back into the USA through North Dakota and ended our trip in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I was just home long enough to mow the grass and do laundry and then it was up to Portland, Oregon to walk the great Columbia River Gorge area. Each Falls walk was unique in it's own way. The walks were a little tough, but well worth it! The NW Conference was held in Portland, in which we did some walks that will be included in the AVA Convention. (Salem, Silver Falls and Mt. St. Helens) With those great walks, the Convention should be a lot of fun. (Seats still available!) When the AVA Committee completes their outline, I will then price and date the trip. So I am now back in Las Vegas, working on upcoming trips and of course, working on 2015 trips and yes, even 2016 trips! (I have some very energetic people who want and like to travel!) Please find a few of the pictures that were taken by the Head Tater.

Volksmarching Vegas in the Summer
Just a bit of information about volksmarching Las Vegas in the summer...
We get plenty of tourists in Las Vegas who also want to add a few of our volksmarches to their vacation travel plans. For those who aren't familiar with Las Vegas, the summer months--late May to early September--have a few dangers you need to be aware of:
- It is extremely hot in Las Vegas during the summer (which is why we cancel our group walks until fall).
- If you do decide to volksmarch during the summer, you should start walking at daybreak while it is still relatively cool.
- Always bring extra water with you when you walk.
- And sunscreen.
- And a source of shade (like a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, an umbrella, and/or a hat).
- If it has/is/will be raining, be particularly aware of the possibility of flash flooding. Many of our walks go through washes around Las Vegas, however these areas (as well as other low-lying areas around the valley) can be extremely dangerous during flash floods.
- Consider doing the North Strip and South Strip volksmarches during the summer--these offer shelter and shade along part of the routes as they go through many of the casinos on the Strip.

China Ranch Date Farm Volksmarch
At China Ranch Date Farm We had thirty one volksmarchers walk the Old Spanish Trail. The date Shakes were delicious. The weather was perfect. A nice calm breeze to keep us cool. Mary and Reesa surprised us with lunch. Donations from our members was overwhelming. The trail was easy to follow. Don't miss next time. It was nice to see the Webers from Pahrump. We miss them.

Texas Tater Tour Trip With Club President!
Texas in March is suppose to be warm and sunny, however we experienced some cool, rainy weather. That did not dampen our spirits in walking in Houston, Galveston, Corpus Christi, San Antonio and Austin. The highlight of the trip was visiting AVA Headquarters and meeting the Staff. We were surprised to see how small the Building was and the tight quarters where they do all the great work for volksmarching! We even had a couple from Maryland finish walking their 50 States!

Quartzite Volksmarch
Carl & I attended the Quartzsite Walk in Arizona on the 8th. It was Carl's first road trip since he moved to LV. We had to leave super early to make the time change difference. I received my City "Q" completed my A-Z City Program. I really enjoyed myself.
There were about forty people who did the walk.
Fun Facts:
Did you know that Camels roam the area in the 1800's.
Did you know there is a gum museum.
Did you know there is a book store with a beautiful western front and tarps for the side walls.
Did you know everything is for sale at Quartzsite.
Did you know that there are only a few homes that can't be moved.
