Come to the Lake and the Desert!
Join us for a Traditional One-day Event
at Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Boulder City, Nevada
October 21, 2017
The Las Vegas High Rollers and Strollers are pleased to offer this traditional AVA-sanctioned event. Event number is 108097.
LOCATION, START/FINISH TIMES AND DISTANCES: We will start at the Hoover Dam Lodge in Boulder City, NV. The hotel is on US RT 93 about 2 miles from Hoover Dam and about 4 miles from Boulder City, NV. Start time is 8:00 am and all walkers must be off the trail by 2:00 pm. We will offer a 10K walk with a 7K option.
TRAIL: Trails are mostly compacted gravel, with some loose and rocky stretches. Several of the descents and climbs are moderately strenuous, so be prepared. Our route leaves the hotel, descends to the Historic Railroad Trail and goes through some of the tunnels excavated as supply routes for the construction of Hoover Dam. We’ll take you to the Alan Bible Visitor Center, where you can learn more about Lake Mead and the surrounding area.
AWARD: IVV credit only.
FEES and PRE-REGISTRATION: There are no entry fees unless you choose to enter Lake Mead NRA. Standard walk fees apply. There is no pre-registration.
STIPULATIONS: This walk is open to all. The Lodge has several good restaurants where you can refuel after the walk.
DISCLAIMERS: The hotel is not liable for accidents, thefts, and/or material damage on the walk. Our aim is to make this a safe, enjoyable, and memorable event.
MISCELLANEOUS: Water will be available at the start/finish point. Water must be carried on the trail. Parking is available adjacent to the hotel. Because of the desert terrain, there is no easy access available for strollers or wheelchairs except immediately around the start point. Pets on a leash are welcome, but be sure to clean up after them. As guests, we want to maintain the desert and should pack out whatever we take in. Bring your cameras to record your amazing trip to Lake Mead.
MISCELLANEOUS II: We have 2 YREs, a bike event, and a swim event within 5 miles of the start point. The hotel (completely renovated in 2016) offers reduced rates for Volksmarchers ($65 per night on Thursday and $85 per night on Friday and Saturday). See our website for details, or call the Lodge at 800-245-6380 and mention the Group Name LVHR&S17. You might want to consider making this a long weekend!
DIRECTIONS: From Las Vegas: Take I15 to I215West to I515/US93/US95 to Boulder City. Follow US93 to Hoover Dam. Start point on the left. From Kingman, AZ: take US 93 North. Cross into Nevada; Lodge is 2 miles on the right.
